Busy Bodied Babies

Good morning from the 'Farm. We are sew blessed to be up and about this chilly morning. It is chilly to me, anyway. When the temperature drops below 65 degrees, I start looking for a jacket or a woobie. For our little corner of the world, it seems it will continue to drop this week. For you darling people that eat bread made with wheat and drink cow juice, I would advise you go ahead and prepare yourselves today. The shelves will be barren by Thursday evening because our local weatherman has predicted snow. Gasp! Granted, I won't drive in it unless there is a vehicle with flashing lights and sirens involved, but, it's not a cause for great alarm! lol

Anyway, on to the reason for this writing.....a new year always brings about reflection, doesn't it? We look back at the year previous and think on what we would like to do differently. I notice as I mature(not age, mind you!), I also reflect on more years. In particular, I have begun to think of the years when my children were younger, their toddler years seem to hold my focus. I remember a feeling of being overwhelmed. I can't imagine why! lol Our children were close in ages. The oldest is one month shy three years from the middle. The youngest is fourteen months younger than her. It was interesting. People constantly asked if the two younger ones were twins. I always opined it would've been simpler. However, what do I know of that?

In reflecting on their time as toddlers, I remember times of needing just five minutes of them playing peacefully for me to gather my thoughts, make a quick call, or perhaps, urinate! It seemed the toys they had lost their grandeur, the boxes they came in had been destroyed, and the favorite movie had all of a sudden become an insult. I just needed 5 minutes! I remember wrestling with so many feelings during this time….Man! I would LOVE to be able to go to a day job! (No, I really wouldn’t have)…..Ugh! I wish we could afford day care! (I wouldn’t have been happy with my kids going to daycare)…..and then, this little impish thought would be the landing pad…….What is wrong with me?!? What good mother wants a break from her kids?!? Guilt….nasty, horrid guilt. Every mother wants a break from her kids, even if it is just to go urinate!

With this memory came a thought toward those of you that are in this stage now. What can I do to help? Not much, but I ran to Pinterest, as many good, warm-blooded, well-meaning souls do, and I actually found brilliance. If you have a chance to read this….do! These are clever ideas and they use what you already have at home(really)! You won’t have to consult Amazon for some farfetched kitchen apparatus just to pacify your little darlings for a few minutes.

Pinterest wouldn’t let me link from them, or my computer wouldn’t. Who knows?

Y’all have a great rest of the week. Enjoy the littles, and don’t feel guilty when you want to urinate without hearing someone yell from the living room, beat or scratch on the door. When you see those tiny fingers reach under the door, smile and whisper a prayer of thanksgiving….they will grow up and learn how to jimmy the door open! ;)

Love y’all big!
